Ipsy vs. Birchbox Showdown

Well hello there!!  Yes, I AM still alive!  I don't know where the time has gone...it has been two weeks since I last blogged.  Shame on me.  I have been really busy lately - I haven't even had time to do yoga, run, or count my calories...and is starting to show!  I plan on doing "goals" post AFTER Thanksgiving :)

I was out of town this past weekend and came home to 5 packages on my doorstep...how fun is that?!?!  Two of them were my Birchbox and my ipsy so I decided to a comparison on the two.

First up is Birchbox - the descriptions of each product are taken directly from card included in the box.

Packaging

Everything

Chuao Chocolatier ChocoPod- These bite-sized artisanal treats are made with premium Venezuelan cacao and come in a range of unexpected flavors.  Full-size, $7.95

Lulu Organics Hair Powder - Revive second-day locks by working this organic dry shampoo into your roots.  You'll get plenty of lift, but no residue.  Full-size, $30

Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme Cologne Absolue - Thanks to spicy ginger and a touch of bergamot, this sexy new rose scent is more sophisticated than sweet.  Full-size, $75-$195

ModelCo Fibre LASHXTEND - Falsies without the fuss.  This innovative mascara uses tiny lash-extending fibers to give you a lengthy fringe.  Full-size, $24

It even has this nifty little mirror on the side!

Miracle Skin Transformer Vanish Instant Imperfection Corrector - Before applying makeup, prep skin with this serum-infused primer, which has optical diffusers that mask imperfections.  Full-size, $58

Thoughts: After several months of being disappointed with my BirchBox items (ie. perfume samples and samples I will NEVER use), I decided to cancel my subscription as of November.  THEN, I got Novebmer's box.  It definitely was better than the previous shipments.  I really love the full-size mascara.  It really makes it worth the $10 spent on BB because just the mascara alone is $24.  I may have to sign up again...or maybe that was just there way of enticing me to join back up??

Next up is ipsy - Descriptions come directly from the ipsy website.

Packaging

Thoughts: This is only my first month to receive my Ipsy bag and I must say I am VERY impressed!  It seems like they send more "full-size" products versus samples.  Don't get me wrong - I do love me some samples but I'm afraid I am all sampled out for now.  I am going to stick with ipsy for a while!

Do you subscribe to any monthly mailers?  If so, which ones and what do you think of them?

Nail Files and a Giveaway

Today I'm linking up with Tara and Vicki  for their fabulous linkup party, The Nail Files. Essie : Turquoise and Caicos Julep : Ivy Annnnd...I'm doing something a little special for my readers today - a nail polish giveaway!!  I am admittedly copying Christina over at Easily Entertained .  :) She recently did a nail polish giveaway (that I missed out on..boo) and I thought what a GREAT way to get rid of some of my overflowing collection of polishes!!! You will win 8 bottles of nail polish including brands: OPI, CHI, Ulta, Avon, 2 Glitter Pots from Julep, and an Ulta Lipgloss! I apologize for the lighting - I will try to get a better picture and upload it. All of these polishes are slightly used (maybe 2 or 3 times) except for the CHI brand and the green Ulta one - those have never been used.  The glitter pots and the lipgloss are also brand spankin' new. a Rafflecopter giveaway

Halloween Treats

For work gifts this year, I used these free printables  and these free printables  to make these cute little treats!  I had a lot of fun making them.  I dragged my poor mom and David around to so many stores looking for different colored Tic Tacs and eyeball candy.  I wanted very badly to make the Vampire Vitamins...who knew it would be so hard to find red Tic Tacs! I also made this easy Halloween Bark. What You Need:   1 Package Halloween Oreos Candy Corn 2 Packages Wilton Candy Melts in White Halloween Sprinkles - I ended up using different sprinkles than the ones in the picture...a girl has a right to change her mind, right? Pretzels - I stole these out of our Trick-or-Treat bowl because I felt like it needed something to offset all the sweetness. 1. Crumble up the Oreos.  I crushed some by hand, some in my food processor and broke some in halves and some in fourths.  Spread out on cookie sheet over wax/parchment paper.  Sprinkle candy corn

A Batman Wedding and a $9 Wedding Dress

I was on this blog today and she was talking about how women spend so much money on wedding dresses.  It reminded me of my wedding and then I realized I've never blogged about it!!!  It's already been a year and half and I still haven't even scrapbooked it!!!  Where does the time go? Ok...to the dress.  I knew exactly what I wanted.  I wanted it to be short, satin, and a "pick-up" style dress.  I looked around at David's Bridal and other stores but I just couldn't see spending more than $100 on my dress.  (I've been married before and had the big, fancy wedding - and we see how well that worked out!!)  So this time, I wanted a small wedding and didn't want to spend much.  I walked into Ross one day looking for something else and decided to walk through the dresses to look for a dress for my sis, the MOH.  It was like the clouds opened up and the angels were singing and the sun beamed down on this dress.  You can't really tell from this pic,
